Aishwarya Rai was born on 01st November, 1973 in a Tulu speaking Hindu family from Mangalore, India. She went on to win the coveted Miss World Pageant in the year 1994. Her dad and brother worked in the Merchant Navy while her mother is a housewife.

Before winning the Miss World title, Aishwarya Rai was in the modeling world and got her first modeling assignment when she was in the 9th grade for Camlin pencils. She was infact lucky as one of her school professors clicked her pictures and sent it to a magazine and that is how she received her first assignment. Since then, she has started getting numerous offers for TV commercials such as Pepsi, Longiness Watches, Coca-Cola, Casio Pager, Lakme Cosmetics, Lux, Philips, Palmolive, Fuji Films etc. Her acting career began in the year 1997 with ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’ opposite actor Bobby Deol. Though the movie did not do well at the Box office, it was in the year 1999 Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, opposite actor Salman Khan that broke the entire box office records. Aishwarya Rai went on to do many box office hit movies and won the prestigious Filmfare Award for best Actress twice. She has also participated in a social work by traveling on a world tour ‘the Magnificent Five’ consisting of well known famous actors from Bollywood namely Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Rani Mukerji and Twinkle Khanna in the year 1999. In 2003, she became the first Indian actress to have been invited at the Cannes Film Festival.

Aishwarya Rai was in a relationship with actor Salman Khan for 2 years which ended in 2001.

Rai was then rumored to be in a relationship with another Indian Actor Vivek Oberoi. She finally tied the knot with Abhishek Bachchan, son of India’s legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan. Today, the couple is happily married and she has become a proud mother of baby Aaradhya Bachchan, who was born on 16th November, 2011. Aishwarya Rai has currently taken a break from movies after the birth of her child but very soon she will be back in the limelight with back to back movies waiting for her.
