Vidya Balan, born on 01st January, 1978 in Kerala, is a leading Bollywood actress. She has also acted in many Malayalam and Bengali movies. Her parents, father P.R. Balan is the Vice President of ETC Channel while her mother is a housewife. She has an elder sister Priya Balan. Vidya Balan completed her high school from St. Anthony Girls High School located at Chembur, Mumbai and then completed her graduation in sociology at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. She eventually went ahead to study MA at the University of Mumbai. It was during this period that she got offers to act in movies.
Vidya Balan's first Hindi movie ‘Parineeta’ in the year 2005 won her the Filmfare and Zee awards for best female debut actor. Since then she has acted in around 15 movies. Her actual success came with successful back to back hit movies such as Paa (2009), Ishqiya (2010), No One Killed Jessica (2011), The Dirty Picture (2011) and the recent Kahaani (2012). Kahaani became one of the biggest commercial successes earning more than USD.20.75 million. Each of the movies had Vidya play a different role and all these movies have been block buster hits. In Paa, she acted as the mother of a child suffering from a genetic disease called ‘Progeria’. Her son was the legendary Amitabh Bachchan who in real life was 67 years of age at the release of the movie. Vidya Balan has also acted in a television series ‘Hum Paanch’ produced by Balaji Telefilms and Zee Telefilms. She is mostly seen wearing a Saree, which is considered to be a traditional outfit of South India.
Currently Vidya Balan is believed to be dating Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO of UTV Motion Pictures. She is one of the few Indian actors who has come a hard way in the film industry. During the early days, she was selected for few Malayalam and Tamil movies but was often replaced last minute by some other female actor. It was the Hindi movie ‘Parineeta’ which actually gave her the biggest break of her career. Vidya Balan has a couple of movies for release in the year 2013 named ‘Ghanchakkar’ and ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’.
